MONUMENT TO OUR FRIENDS THAT HAVE MOVED AWAY - THE TODD BUILDING
The new tall white building that sits almost in the Gingerman's yard on Friday June 19th, 1998 was dedicated as the first monument in the Uptown area of Dallas, Texas. This monument was dedicated to all of our friends that have moved away in the past several years. I the Mayor of McKinney Avenue chose this building for several reasons;
1. It does not have a name at the time of dedication .
2. It was vacant
3. It stands out as a monument and not a useful piece of real estate in the midst of quaint homes and antique stores in the center of Uptown.
4. Can be seen from all around.
And perhaps the most important reason of all is its proximity to the Gingerman. As you all know this is where after a few beers we all start to ask how our friends that have moved away are doing. Well this monument will always be right there next to the Gingerman for us to stare at and remember our friends that have moved away.
Now for the name of this monument;
The idea of a monument came on the evening of June 17th,1998 when I was talking to one of our friends that recently moved to San Francisco, Todd Parker. He said that he did not want to be remembered as just that guy that let us use his apartment for the Musclebash (large going away party for Larry Muscles). So I the Mayor of McKinney Avenue decided that I would do more than just let Todd fade away. So this new monument shall be named THE TODD BUILDING!!!!! For those of you who never met Todd or have never heard of him well the TODD BUILDING is also known as the building for our friends that moved away and That Our Dearly Departed did not have the opportunity to see. Names of those friends that have left Dallas are inscribed on the side of the TODD Building. We are working towards obtaining space inside the TODD Building for a permanent collection of memorabilia, artifacts, photos, and music of our friends. Uptownn Air's pilot and CEO of Uptownn Airlines, "Beef Stu" plans on donating his wine cork collection to the permanent collection. Beef has saved every wine cork from every bottle of wine he has ever shared with his friends over the years.
