MEET THE MAYOR OF GASTON AVENUE - PAUL MATTHAEI

MAYOR OF GASTON AVENUE - PAUL MATTHAEI - People all around Dallas are quite amazed to learn how quickly Paul Matthaei became the Mayor of Gaston Avenue. Many people ask Paul how this came about and this is how he tells the story. Paul came to Texas from the small seaside village of Merrick, Long Island. One day opportunity struck and Paul who always had a yearning for Texas decided to leave his small village and take the long trek across the great plains and Rocky mountains to Texas. Paul at first settled close to the airport because he figured that if any Indians invaded from Oklahoma he can quickly jet away. Yes, Paul had a lot to learn about Texas. As time went on he ventured into Dallas several times and found an apartment community called the village. He noticed a pickup truck driving down Southwestern Blvd. pulling a boat trailer so Paul figured that water was closeby in the village. "This reminds me of my hometown of Merrick," Paul exclaimed. He quickly went and packed his things and moved into the village. To Paul's disappointment he could not find any water nearby and ended up filling his bathtub with water and sailboats. Paul got tired of playing with sailboats and one day he overheard some of his co-workers planning a happy hour. Paul said "I remember going to one of those in college, do you mind if I come?" Co-worker Sarah Sweeney invited Paul and gave him directions to the Tipperary Inn on Gaston Avenue. She provided directions but Paul never showed. Sarah invited him to the next three happy hours at the Tipperary Inn and Paul did not show to any of those. What happened to Paul? Well it turns out that Paul being from a small village could not find the Tipperary Inn which is in the midst of the large city of Dallas. He would drive up and down Gaston Avenue all night in search of the Tipperary Inn. He would stop and ask the local folk for directions but still could not find it. One long time Gaston Avenue resident Cody McAllister said "I like that boy, I hope he finds his way to the Tipperary Inn". As time went on Paul started to realize how wonderful Gaston Avenue is. He said " This is my favorite street in Dallas. I have made a lot of friends here in my search for the Tipperay Inn. More people should come here to East Dallas and become a part of the community". One night friends Ken and Randy escorted Paul to the Tipperary Inn and Paul became a frequent patron. As a matter of fact after that first night it would be hard not to find him in the Tipperary Inn on any night. He would join with the band singing his favorite Irish songs and doing his own version of the jig. Paul was loved by everyone! One night at the Tipperary Inn there was a large party going on and in attendance were the Mayors of McKinney and Greenville Avenues. It was suggested that Gaston Avenue needed a Mayor and Paul became the overwhelming choice. Since then Paul has been working with the Chamber of Commerce and Rand McNally in printing maps of the Gaston Avenue area with all roads leading to the Tipperary Inn. Paul we tip our glasses to you.
